April Happenings

It has become apparent to me that individuals who have an infant and blog daily are either a) immune to the need to sleep, b) on some type of upper, c) really tired, or d) extraterrestrials.  Once again, it has been over a month since I’ve blogged.  Once again, I’ve been informed by multiple people.  I think it would be best if you just came to expect this from me.  Under promise and over deliver, right?  I think that applies here.

On to Miss Amelia!  We think Amelia weighs in at about 14 lbs.  Lugging her around is like lifting weights all day!  We’ll find out how much she actually weighs in a couple of weeks when she has her 4 month appointment.

Since I last blogged, we’ve done a lot.  We went to visit the last of Amelia’s Great Grandparents.

The following weekend was Easter.  Saturday we spent the day with the Hemann’s.  My younger cousins were a bit infatuated with Amelia.  It was pretty adorable.

Easter wore us all out!  By Sunday, I was pretty much sleepwalking, and Amelia must have felt the same because she ended up sleeping all afternoon on Sunday at the Marzen get-together.

Amelia’s favorite things?  She loves to talk and kick.  She LOVES to stand - she’s become a big fan of her exersaucer.  It’s a little wide for her, so we took the advice of Aunt Amber and made her a bumper out of receiving blankets and it is now her favorite place to hang!

Amelia also likes her Sophie the Giraffe.  If you aren’t familiar with Sophie the Giraffe, Sophie is basically an expensive chew toy that strongly resembles a dog toy (right down to the squeaker).  This is the only toy Amelia can consistently hold and insert into her mouth.  Sophie is French, so you must read her name with a French accent.  However, having a child's chew toy that resembles a dog toy is especially problematic if you have a dog by the same name.  Imagine talking about Sophie (the giraffe) and Sophie (the dog) runs up thinking she's been called and looks longingly at the spotted toy in your hand, thinking it's for her.  It's a disaster in the making.  So, it's been decided that Sophie the Giraffe needs a new French name...  Maybe Lucy?

What does Amelia hate?  Being ignored and tummy time.  She despises tummy time.  It goes something like this:

“Mom, WHY am I on my tummy.  This is too much work.  I’ve told you before!”

30 seconds in, the whining and grunting begins….

… and it very shortly disintegrates into screaming into the carpet.
In less than a minute, tummy time is over.

Amelia also went to her first baseball game in April.  Her Daddy bought her a glove.  The glove clearly states it’s for ages 5 and up, but in Tom’s words, “My kid better be using a real glove by the time she’s 5!” :)  No pressure, Amelia!

The dogs love Amelia.  We’re working on them not licking her, but other than that we’re okay with them being BFFs.  I'm sure the licking is only going to get worse when she starts eating solid food!

I’ve been asked for some photos of Amelia’s nursery…  Here you go (Sara)!  My Mom made the curtains, bedding, and changing pad cover.  We love it.  Thanks Mom!

This week brought my first week back to work and Amelia’s first week at daycare.  It went okay, and it helps that I only have to do it 20 more times before summer break.  I think going back in August will be a little harder because I’ll know it will be for an entire school year.   The tough part is now Tom and I have to share her in the evenings!  The other tough part is Amelia is waking up at least once a night now.  She started this just in time for me to start back at work.  This last week we've shared the night responsibilities, but Tom will be traveling for 2 weeks in May, which will make things interesting.  The first week starts today.  Wish me luck! :)

Tom and I spent some time looking at our baby photos to see who Amelia looks like.  We’re pretty sure she has Tom’s eyes, but she might have my face shape. Time will tell!  Regardless who she looks like, we think she’s absolutely adorable and we are quite smitten.
